Leadership education aspires to train and guide students to become "self-learners”
in contrast to current paradigms of cramming information. Cramming information usually
leaves a student with only a “set of fragmented abstracts.”
In producing “self-learners,” we hope to be producing an educated generation, a generation
of leaders. Grace Academy embraces the principles of leadership education. We believe
it complements our core values of aspiring for Academic excellence, laying down a
Biblical worldview and insuring the Character development of each student. Grace
Academy desires to be the home of leadership education in Napa Valley.
The Methods of ‘’Leadership Education’
Our time-proven "leadership education" model takes every student through a series
of events on virtually an hourly basis.
Students are trained to become astute observers; a portion of class time is essentially
an observation process.
Instruction comes from the teacher (or rather mentor) who guides the student through
the observation process.
Students explore and find unique applications of what they were observing.
In order to crystallize the knowledge they are acquiring, students must be able to
verbalize what they have observed in the form of an essay, discussion, debate or
speech.
Students attain mastery once they are able to "teach" someone else what they have
learned.
It is said that teachers cannot educate. They can only lead students to becomes
self-learners.
